Why do my gums bleed?

This is one of the most Frequently asked question received at SmileStore. Why do my gums bleed?

Bleeding gums is often a sign that you have gum disease as a result of not taking enough care in your oral hygiene routine. The gums are soft because of the debris you are leaving between teeth. Bacteria then feed on this leftover food and end up causing infection and decay of teeth. The body's response to infection is to increase circulation in the gums thus making them soft.

The best way to fight gingivitis - gum disease is to have a good oral health routine. The most important thing is to floss twice daily.Sometimes it can be hard to floss if you have sensitive gums or braces. This is why we reccomend the Waterpik Water Flosser. The Waterpik flushes away debris between teeth with water. It is far more effective than string floss and have been proven to reduce gingival bleeding.

Using a good toothbrush is also important in keeping gums healthy. A manual toothbrush with long bristles or a powered toothbrush will help to clear debris between teeth and will help massage the gums and effectively clean teeth.

Mouthwash is another product you can add to your daily routine to help flush any remaining debris away after you have finished flossing and brushing. At SmileStore we stock a product called Ozospa. This is a mouthwash that helps to balance the PH level in the mouth and restore the mouth to its normal balance after eating and drinking.

At SmileStore we have a range of floss to choose from. we have standard floss as well as floss for people with larger gaps between their teeth. With this advice you should be able to prevent gum disease and stop those bleeding gums! Check out our range of Waterpik Water Flosses here!
