Basil Lemonade Drink

Refreshing and smells great!

  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 3/4 cup Xylitol
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 6 large lemons)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 6 cups cold water
  • 12-15 basil leaves

Bring the water to a boil and then remove from heat. Add the Xylitol. Stir until the Xylitol is well dissolved. This is called simple syrup. Take the basil leaves in your hands and crumple them to release their oils. Throw it in the pot. Add the lemon zest to the basil/Xylitol/water mixture. Let them all mingle together until it cools down.

Put the cold water and lemon juice in a pitcher. Strain the simple syrup mixture and add just the liquid to the pitcher. Stir well. Serve with ice and a lemon wedge.
